Fishing with family and new friends!

The joy of fishing is something that often families with children with special needs do not get to experience. C.A.S.T. for Kids events provide opportunities for these families to try something new and overcome obstacles.

In a post event survey this year, a parent of a participant said, “My son can't control body movement and he yells out random noises and he doesn't get to interact with others his age because of this among other disabilities but watching him interact with the 2 young men, he was so happy and he didn't have any body tremors while he was fishing or any outbursts of yelling noises. It’s like he was a different child out there fishing, something I wouldn't have seen if it wasn't for this event and the patience the 2 young men had when teaching him how to cast. Now I will try as much as I am able to fish with him because I have seen how therapeutic it was for him. When I returned to my car my oldest son was waiting and I broke down and cried because I was able to see my son in a way I have never known he could be because of this event. Thank you for doing this for our children.

With the help of tremendous volunteers and sponsors, we hosted 79 events in 32 states this year and gave about 3,000 children with special needs and their families the opportunity to experience the joy of fishing making 2022 a record-breaking year for C.A.S.T.! Our mission is to enrich the lives of children with special needs, support their families, and strengthen communities through the sport of fishing. We love giving families the opportunity to enjoy a special day and discover a new hobby. Plans are already in the works for 100 events in 2023!

Our goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise funds to sponsor 40 of our participants in 2023, so they can enjoy a day with their families. A financial gift of $100 will sponsor one child with special needs and a parent for an event. Each child is partnered with an experienced fisherman and receives an event t-shirt, hat, fishing rod & reel, and tackle box. During lunch, we host an awards ceremony where every child has the opportunity to share their fishing story in the microphone and is presented a plaque to enjoy and remember their fishing experience.

From the joy of boat ride, the thrill of catching a fish, and the moments of being heard and celebrated at the awards ceremony, families are supported because their children get to enjoy a day full of possibilities. Will you please help us take some amazing children fishing this year and introduce families to a therapeutic hobby for all?
