Curtis has downs syndrome, epilepsy, autism and congenital heart disorder. He’s deaf in one ear and legally blind. Curtis has experienced 70 surgeries during his 18 years of life. Often, kids with special needs aren’t included or can’t participate in recreational activities like other kids. They are often overlooked and marginalized.

However, C.A.S.T. for Kids events recognize and celebrate kids with special needs like Curtis, helping them feel seen, known and valued by their local community. Despite all his medical challenges, Curtis attended nine CAST for Kids events across Texas in 2019. Curtis’ mom says, they drive for miles because it’s “the making of new friends and the comfort of seeing old friends” along with the whole fishing adventure that has been so life-changing for Curtis.
